Heartburn is a common condition that occurs when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest and throat. Acid reflux, on the other hand, is a chronic condition that occurs when the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) doesn't close properly, allowing stomach acid to flow back into the esophagus. This condition can cause a wide range of symptoms, including heartburn, chest pain, difficulty swallowing, and even asthma. Understanding the causes, symptoms, and treatment options for both heartburn and acid reflux is essential for managing these conditions and improving your quality of life.
